  • Henry Lau releases a dashing "Always Been You" visualizer!

The K-pop pin-up Henry Lau has just dropped an amazing video visualizer for his upcoming single "Always Been You" ! Here's a fun look into his wonderful comeback! The time has come for this exciting new single, and music video. I have to say that since Henry Lau is one of my favorite Korean artists, I have been counting down the days. Let's check out the official visualizer that just dropped! From the get-go, I have to say that I liked the simple white background and the focus on Henry singing and looking pretty sad. I felt that this allowed me as a fan to feel a closer emotional connection to the star. It almost reminds me of my teenage years, when I had a break-up and would sulk in my room, and this is exactly what Henry heard. I could tell that through his lyrics he had experienced either a breakup or heartache within his family, and the simplicity of the music video hit home and made me as a fan reflect on my own experiences by listening to the carefully crafted lyrics that he put together. One thing I really like about Henry is that he always plays an instrument as well, and the focus this time was not on him making music from old car parts, but rather playing a simple guitar and the camera panning on close-up shots of his face. Check out my previous article regarding the teaser for the video: https://www.dojeonmedia.com/post/henry-lau-drops-a-new-teaser-for-his-upcoming-single-always-been-you What do you think of this new single? • This Seoul subculture festival takes gaming to a whole new level!

Gaming and animation are all under one roof! Get ready for cosplay and more as we take you through Seoul's most famous subculture festival that is perfect for all anime fans! In recent times gaming has became a global phenomenon, and Korea is no exception to this. Subculture games which started out in small communities which has specific trends or interests for example anime have grown dramatically out of their humble routes. In present times they have gained more enthusiasts and hardcore gamers, but also casual fans with an interest in art, storytelling, or people who just want to give them a try. Check out this vlog from a fan to see the highlights! This inclusive and rapidly growing fandom was on full display on Sunday, Aug. 25 , at the Seoul Trade Exhibition & Convention in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Despite temperatures peaking at 33 degrees Celsius, fans flocked to Illustar Fes , Korea’s largest subculture gathering event organized by the Korean gaming company Starlike . The event was a celebration of the multi-faceted world of subculture, bringing together fans of games, anime, and more in a single space, I think this was a fantastic way to escape the heat and to cool down! The festival is already in its fifth year, and since last year, the event has featured over 1,000 booths! Impressive right?! I think this is a great opportunity as it allows individual creators to sell handmade art, merchandise, and other subculture-inspired goods. By the afternoon, some of the most popular stalls, such as those of Nexon's Blue Archive, were already displaying “sold out” signs. I hope that this can give the startups some exposure to their fans. I have never been to a gaming or anime event, however, I have seen some of my friend's photos and I have also heard from them directly how good they are, so I am totally interested in attending next year. Did you attend this year's event? What is your favorite game? Let us know your thoughts on this topic in the comments below. #illustarfes #animeexpo #anime #animefans #Starlike

  • This trot singer is more popular than BTS or IU! Here's why!

Recent surveys have shown that even BTS's popularity can be beat! We explain why trot singer Lim Young Woong has taken South Korea by storm! A recent survey which took place on March 22, 2024, has found that Lim Young Woong is the most popular singer in South Korea this year, this means that he is more popular than IU for example. With 10 billion music platform streams, more than 200,000 fan club members, and a sold-out stadium tour, Lim Young Woong is flying high. So is there stopping him? Lim rose to fame by winning TV Chosun's audition program Mr. Trot in 2020. He has since built a strong fan base across generations and on the border between North and South Korea . In addition, Lim then released the digital single "Do or Die" on October 9, 2023. Lim then released a double single album Warmth , featuring the tracks "Home" and "Warmth", on May 6, 2024. Lim, 33, is one of a crop of younger artists who are breathing new life into the genre, with its melodramatic ballads and upbeat tunes finding massive audiences in South Korea, helped by a wave of reality television shows. The original, Mr Trot , was won by Lim in 2020, with more than a third of all South Korean viewers watching the final – and his victory has turned him into a nationwide sensation. His songs have 10 billion streams on the music platform Melon , his official fan club has more than 200,000 members and his tours sell out in minutes, this is very impressive!! Can the star keep this up? Let us know your thoughts on this topic in the comments below. #MrTrot #LimYoungWoong #임영웅_Home #임영웅_Home_스페셜뮤직애니메이션

  • GD & Daesung SUPRISES fans at Taeyang's "THE LIGHT YEAR" Seoul performance!

G-Dragon and Daesung recently SUPRISED fans at Taeyang's show in Seoul, "The Light Year". This was Taeyang's first solo concert in seven years! We have all the details and videos that you need to see! With the first concert in over 7 years, BIGBANG's Taeyang was able to meet his fans who have eagerly been waiting for him to jump back on the stage. Why has it taken the star 7 years to return? A great thing about comebacks is that tickets often sell out very fast. Taeyang held the first of his two-day solo concert on Sunday, "TAEYANG 2024 TOUR 'THE LIGHT YEAR' IN SEOUL" , at the Olympic Hall in Seoul, marking his first solo concert since 2017. Both shows sold out within minutes after the release of tickets, proving Taeyang's enduring popularity. Will this lead to more sell-out shows over the next few months? At the show, the K-pop star was able to show off his solo ability, but he also performed a classic medley of BIGBANG'S hit songs, which included "If You", "Blue", "Loser" and some others, this allowed the crowd to sing along and at points in the show, due to the fans singing so loud, it was hard to hear Taeyang, which I think is really magical and it shows the level of interest that fans still have in the star after a 7-year break. Of course, this was not all, Daesung took to the stage for a solo performance and a joint performance with Taeyang, which of course made the crowd even more excited than they already were. This surprise appearance during the performance of "A Fools Only Tears" allowed Daesung to sing the song with Taeyang, and the bond between the two seemed to be as strong as ever! Let's take a look at the magic moment! Having watched the video of this special moment, I can feel the crowd's excitement at the guest's appearance. I think it's great that the fans were so happy and singing along to the songs. That said, I am not the biggest fan of the wardrobe concept that the performers were wearing. Is this even fashion?! I think the oversized baggy cargo trousers look a bit ridiculous. However, in terms of the vocals, I think the performers did a fantastic job singing live, as many artists nowadays opt for auto-tune or pre-recorded vocals during live performances which I did not hear here. Is this the start of something more from the surprise guest appearances? Like other reunion performances that bands or solo artists have embarked on in the past, I have to say that due to the level of fan excitement, it has to be one of the best in K-pop history, I can of course envision that this will lead to a 'comeback' tour later this year or early next year. Taeyang will continue his tour across Asia including Osaka, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Taipei! Were you at the Seoul concert? If so, tag us in your photos, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below. #태양   #taeyang   #gd   #gdragon   #지디   #대성   #빅뱅   #bigbang   #welike2party   #goodboy   #2024태양콘서트   #서울   #올림픽공원   #올림픽홀

  • Craving American BBQ in South Korea? Texas Road House hits the spot! [Restaurant of the month]

With summer ending, and fall fast approaching Texas Road House offers you the chance to experience the taste of summer for a little longer. Let's check out why this restaurant has made it Dojeon's Restaurant of the Month ! With many Americans based in Korea for different reasons, a taste of home from time to time is needed, and coming from the UK the food in the US is very similar. A great thing I love about America's Southern cuisine is the home cooked slow roasted food, and of course, the welcoming Southern accent! When I heard that there was an American-inspired chain in Korea called Texas Road House, I knew I had to try their food. Check out part of the menu below! Their menu is very extensive, however, their signature meals are burgers or steaks, which I have to tell you have been very hard for me to find in Korea. Koreans simply love Korean food, and outside of Seoul, good Western food can be hard to find. I had been craving a burger for a long time, however, based on price point and seeing what other people had ordered in the restaurant, I opted for a steak and it was no disappointment! Decor/Ambience While I was waiting for my meal, I had the chance to take a look around the restaurant, and the dark interior reminded me of a typical American diner, such as the chain "Millars" however it felt nostalgic and homely which was great. Time to eat! With the fully loaded jacket potato which I had also been craving, the flavors worked so well. It reminded me of when I spent time in Florida when I was younger as this "home-cooked" rich Southern Style food hit the spot in every way possible! If you are after an alternative to Korean food Texas Road House should be on your destination list for September. Not to mention, with the hot and humid Korean summer coming to an end this restaurant will offer you one last chance for a good old "Western BBQ" meal this year. As this is a chain, stores are located throughout the country, though they are usually located next to one of the US military bases. To get your mouth watering, let's check out this video! Let us know in the comments below if you have been to Texas Road House, and if so tag us in your photos! #TexasRoadHouseKR #TexasRoadHouse #Texasbbq #steak #restaurantofthemonth

  • K-pop star Moon Tae Il sacked from NCT for alleged S**ual crimes?!

The former member of NCT and its sub-units NCT U and NCT 127 , Moon Tae Il, has been charged with alleged sexual crimes! We answer the questions that everyone is asking and his future in K-pop! Who is Taeil?! M oon Tae Il, 30, better known as, Taeil , is a singer and songwriter. He was born in South Korea’s capital, Seoul and began his singing career in 2013 when he was discovered by his label, SM Entertainment . In 2016, he joined NCT when the boy band made its debut, and he became the main vocalist for the band. What do we know about these allegations? South Korean singer Taeil has left the K-pop band NCT after being accused of an unspecified sexual crime, his label announced last Wednesday. To hear this, I have to say that sadly I am not surprised if this rumor is true, as we have seen previously with the Burning Sun scandal that many famous artists tend to use their influence and status to exploit others or put them in vulnerable positions. SM Entertainment released a statement on X, saying the NCT member will depart from the boy band after learning he has been "accused in a criminal case related to a sexual crime". I agree with this, as there is an open investigation regarding the member's actions, however, if this "criminal case" finds the star innocent, I don't think that label will resign him, due to the bad press that is surrounding the star currently. The label did not specify the nature of the alleged crime but said it "recognized the seriousness of the situation" and decided Taeil could no longer "continue his activities with the team". However, Taeil himself has not publicly commented on the allegations. Is this part of the cancelation culture? Or did the star commit these crimes? Only time will tell, however, because of this shocking news making headlines around the world, his career will never be the same. Let us know your thoughts on this topic in the comments below. #NCT #Taeil #NCTU #NCT127

  • South Korea to start a 4-day workweek. Will it work? We find out!

South Korea will soon start a four-day workweek for couples to spend more time together in an attempt to combat its low birth rate. Will this new strategy combat the continual protest from working moms for more opportunities and equality in the workplace in a male-dominated office culture country? We give you the details! Employees in a South Korean province will be trying to work less next year, as the global movement for a four-day workweek gathers momentum. Workers at more than 50 organizations across Gyeonggi Province will be able to choose either a four-day week every fortnight or shortened hours every week it's been reported. Let's take a look at some of the working week hours across the world: As you can see from this table featuring mainly leading world countries, South Korea is one of the countries with the highest working week hours, which has affected the low birth rate. The Korean province of Gyeonggi-do, will allow the employees of more than 50 organizations to opt for a shorter work week or reduced weekly hours, which is unprecedented in Korean work culture. This strategy from the government will try to help the country's low fertility rate and allow women to balance a career and a family. Of course, the incentive is part of a broader global movement in order to create a better work-life balance, especially in countries known for a tough work culture like Korea. Do you think many Koreans will opt for a 4-day working week? Will this help the low fertility rate? • Taeyeon & Sam Smith pair up to release a new edition of "I'm Not The Only One"

K-pop star Taeyeon British pop singer Sam Smith released a new version of Sam Smith's "I'm Not The Only One" ! Let's take a look at this amazing blend of artistry and cultures! Recently British singer Sam Smith made headlines when he released his re-recorded version of the hit "I'm Not The Only One" with Korean pop sensation Taeyeon for the 10th anniversary of his first EP album In The Lonely Hour (2014). The lyric video dropped on Friday, August 30, 2024, featuring both English and Korean! Oh, how time flies! Firstly, with the poster that Universal Music Group curated, I have to say that I love the concept here. The styling with both singers is on point, and the "moody" image shows me a lot of emotion, and rightfully so with the mood of the song that the pair collaborated on. Also, Taeyeon's makeup on the poster looks incredible! Let's check out the video! I really love this song, and lyrically I think it's brilliant. That said, I think it was a bold move to add the Korean lyrics into the song, as it is already so well known. Is Sam Smith trying to break into the Korean music industry? From what I know, he is already well-known in Korea, and I think it's great that a British artist is successful here. Sam Smith's vocals and the lyrics behind this song are emotional and clever, however in terms of his recent dress concepts, and his gender pronoun culture, I am very curious if that would work in conservative Korea and man dressed in a "dress" will take off here? I sadly don't think so. Taeyeon's vocal ability in this collaboration is also amazing. Since she is loved by many Koreans, I think that this song will become very popular in Korea. I can also feel the emotion behind her voice and I think that she hits the high notes very well, and her English singing is also great! Which I have to say I was surprised to hear. Quoted in an interview by Universal Music Group (UMG) UMG said Smith launched the collaboration project with Taeyeon out of gratitude for the continued love from his fans from South Korea. Taeyeon also said she is "tremendously happy" to participate in the project, and it is a "great honor" to share her talent and passion for music with Smith. So I will leave you with this: Why and how did this collaboration come about? With the K-wave ( Hallyu ) taking off globally, especially in the UK, I think more collaborations will come between British and Korean artists. Let us know in the comments below what you think of this new cover! #Taeyeon #SamSmith #imnottheonlyone #SAMSMITHxTAEYEON   #태연

Brace yourselves for SBS' new fantasy drama The Judge From Hell featuring the beautiful and talented Park Shin Hye ! We break down why this drama has caught our attention and why you should watch it! This fantasy drama focuses on a demon who enters the body of a female judge, Kang Bit Na (Park Shin Hye Doctor Slump 2024) who pairs up with a compassionate detective who fights the wave for justice. Kang Bit Na is a demon who is sent to Earth to punish wrongdoers and send them to hell. On the other hand, Han Da On ( Kim Jae Young Love in Contract 2022) is a sharp-minded detective with a kind heart. The two meet and their lives completely change. This fantasy is also meant to be a feel-good drama to watch, and by the sounds of what we know so far I certainly think so. Check out the teaser poster below! After looking at the poster I love the vibe and it reminds me of the US film Devil Wears Prada with the red background and fierce female image. Let's check out this teaser video! The trailer for sure does give off the fantasy vibe and dark feelings which I love being a big fan of crime shows, and I have to say that having a powerful women character is also great as it flips the gender stereotype. The shot toward the end with her purple eyes leaves me with lots of questions too. What kind of powers does she have and how will she weld it? Mark your calendars for September 21, 2024 , when this fantasy drama will air on SBS at 10 PM KST! Let us know your thoughts on this new fantasy drama in the comments below. #ParkShinHye #KimJaeYoung #TheJugeFromHell
