  • Tokyo Vice Just Finished First Season & We Can't Wait For Season 2!

#tokyovice #anselelgort #kenwatanabe Elgort and Watanabe deliver in this complex crime-driven thriller! Tokyo Vice is one of the best shows of the season! Ken Watanabe and Ansel Elgort star in Tokyo Vice. Photo via The Japan Times. *Contains spoilers. 4.7/5 Stars HBO Max's original Tokyo Vice just finished its first 8 episode season Thursday, April 28th. The Tokyo-based crime thriller premiered on April 7th and proved to be one of the best shows of the season with its star-studded cast. Here are our thoughts about this new amazing show! An American ex-pat, Jake Adelstein (Ansel Elgort Baby Driver 2017), is an aspiring journalist for Tokyo's most revered and oldest newspaper, Yomiuri Shinbun. Being the first non-Japanese reporter has its challenges as Jake navigates the Yakuza-owned underbelly of Toyko's streets. Jake has immersed himself in Japanese culture and mastered its language as we're pulled into the rigorous process of becoming a top Japanese reporter at one of Japan's most respected newspapers. Although he is considered to be an "expert" in Japanese culture and language, from a non-Japanese standpoint, Jake learns that he must navigate the culturally steep landscape of Japanese work culture. He constantly butts heads with his superiors and can't seem to find any leads to any crime stories. Jake befriends a veteran police detective, Hiroto Katagiri (Ken Watanabe Godzilla: King Of The Monsters 2019), in hopes to get a solid lead on the current murders by the territory fighting Yakuza. The unseemly pair form a peculiar bond as they try to solve a string of murders committed by local Yakuza gangs. Ansel Elgort delivers a much more complex character in Jake Adelstein. A far cry from his dialogue-less character, Baby, in Baby Driver. Ken Watanabe adds to the complexion by providing a father figure guiding role to the young reporter. The season ends with a lot of questions and mystery. How are the unlikely pair of a police detective and a rookie reporter going to take on the mob? What will happen to Hiroto Katagiri's family as they're being watched by the Yakuza? We can't wait for Season 2, which hasn't been officially renewed yet. Being ex-pats ourselves, in Korea, we can confirm how difficult it is to assimilate to the local culture, especially in one of The Asian Tiger countries. Elgort has proved to be a top-tier actor learning Japanese for the role and embracing the local Japanese culture. What are your thoughts about this series? Would you be able to learn the local language and immerse yourself in the culture? Let us know your thoughts and experiences!

  • Ozark Season 4 Part 2 Delivers Emotional All-Around Performance

#ozark #netflixozark #dramareview Season 4 Part 2 of Netflix's hit drama Ozark dropped Friday, April 29th and it proved to be what we've all been waiting for. Sit back and grab your popcorn as we preview the much anticipated second installment of this gripping drama. 4.8/5 Stars *This review contains spoilers. The end of Part 1 comes as a shock as Javi goes to Darlene's ranch and kills Darlene (Lisa Emery) and her much younger fiancé Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan). Once Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) finds out what Javi did to her cousin, Wyatt, she sets out on an emotional revenge tour. Part 2 starts with a strung-out Ruth driving her truck trying to contemplate what to do with her pitted rage. She vows to get revenge for Wyatt as we see their relationship revealed as children growing up in their trailer home near the lake. Ruth sets out to find where Javi will meet Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney) to fill out some financial documents in Chicago before returning back to Mexico. After finding out where their meeting will take place from Charlotte and Jonah, Ruth drives to Chicago to execute her intentions. Struggling with emotions and being found out by Marty that she's also in Chicago, Ruth decides that she has what it takes to take out Javi. Ruth and Marty. Image via USA News. The episode ends with a thrilling scene by what most of us have expected of Ruth. That she's got some "balls" to follow through with what she set out to do. We are left with a still emotionally battered Ruth as she leaves the parking lot still wondering what are the repercussions of her actions. What do you think will happen to Ruth? Will Marty and Wendy be able to protect their family from Ruth's actions? After watching this drama for four seasons, everyone knows that characters can go just as quickly as they appear. Let us know what your thoughts and expectations are!

  • 'The Batman' Revitalizes Old Characters In Latest Film

#thebatman #batman2022 #robertpattinson DC Fanbase. 4.5/5 Stars *This review contains spoilers If you come out of this movie with a dirt taste still in your mouth, it's done its job. Matt Reeves' (War For Planet Of The Apes 2017) directorial debut as the next-in-line Batman franchise came as gritty, grimy, and emotionally driven as most fans would expect. With Robert Pattinson (Tenet 2020) as the emotionally distraught Bruce Wayne trying to navigate his way through crime-filled Gotham City, this version of the caped crusader proved acceptable by most fans. While trying to uncover the city's corruption from mob bosses, government officials, and the police, Bruce Wayne meets his intriguing love interest, Selina Kyle (Zoe Kravitz). Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. The Wrap. The Batman depicts the early stages of the crime-fighting hero often times awkwardly tense in situations where other depictions of him are as smooth as can be. Pattinson does a wonderful job of creating Bruce Wayne struggling with his emotions and finding his true self throughout the film. This theme is magnified by the villain, The Riddler (Paul Dano), when he is questioned through a riddle as one of the clues. Of course, we'll have to compare this rendition of the caped crusader to its previous installments from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (2008). Reeves does a great job at introducing a hurting Bruce Wayne trying to find meaning and uncovering his family's involvement with Gotham City's corruption, but oftentimes the film drags on in order to do this. The introduction of characters is really well done but doesn't have the action and on-your-toes excitement The Dark Knight brought. Still, if DC decides to continue with Reeves at the helm, it does have the potential to rival Nolan's version. If the introduction of new villains the consistency of the grimy and gritty feel we get from this film stays the same, it could be the next big hit. Photo via CNET. What are your thoughts about this new installment of the caped crusader? Does it have the potential to be the next Batman franchise? Is Pattinson the best Bruce Wayne? We want to hear from you!

With the introduction of Starbucks into Korea in 1999, a cultural shift began to happen. Koreans, due to the lack of space in their own personal homes, often had nowhere to meet up with friends for a quick drink and chat. Starbucks changed the cultural paradigm by creating a cozy, clean, and spacious atmosphere for Koreans young and old, a place to hang out. Partnered with 5G speed internet, Starbucks and other coffee chains became the go-to spot for many Koreans taking a quick break from shopping or hanging out with friends. • New iPhones Could Have Notchelss Displays...in 2024

#apple #iphone #notchlessdisplay Much respected Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, announced on Twitter that the "real full-screen iPhone will come in 2024". He stated that "only high-end iPhones in 2024 would adopt an under-display front camera alongside the under-display Face ID". This would mean the earliest iPhone model (iPhone 16 Pro) would be the most likely model to have this feature. Apple fans have been adamant about their full-screen preference for years since their competitor, Samsung, has touted their much smaller camera notch on the front-facing camera. Meanwhile, Apple fans will have to wait a little longer. Apple's premium image in South Korea is well on the rise as 27.73% of mobile phone owners prefer the brand. Samsung still makes up the majority of the country's mobile phone ownership at 65.21% (https://gs.statcounter.com/ As of March 2022). Apple store in South Korea. Photo via Apple.
