Everyone seems to see Korea as the world of K-pop and kimchi, and although these two things are popular here, you really must look past that. You should see Seoul as a futuristic, safe, and modern city, and the first place to explore when you visit Korea. It’s a starkly modern metropolis with a man-made river winding through its core. It makes sense to start your trip to South Korea here — flight connections are good, and the city’s scope of experiences acts as an introduction to Korean culture, with the main airport being Incheon, which is easily accessible by airport express buses and trains to the city, as well as Seoul's subway link.

Tips for a first-time trip to Korea!

Seoul, South Korea is a beautiful but massive city with so much to see, it’s almost impossible to decide what to do on a short trip there. I spent one year living in the capital, and I now go there regularly for work, but even I have not seen everything that Seoul has to offer.

It can feel overwhelming when you first arrive but we spent the day coming up with a great itinerary to get acquainted with the city without trying to do too many things in one day, and even by taking the subway, it can feel that you have not seen everything, as there are many lines and connections.

Be sure to buy a subway card which can be purchased at any convenience store and topped up. You can use this on subways, and buses and even to purchase food in convenience stores throughout Korea. This will make your trip hassle-free.

Throughout Seoul, many alleys connect a series of shops, boutiques, and restaurants. I have noticed in the evening there were are lines to get in some restaurants, which seems to be part of Korean restaurant culture. There are some well-known popular restaurants around here. You come, you line up, you wait for your table. I've never seen so many line-ups for restaurants in any place I have ever been.

Of course, a must-do in Seoul and located near City Hall is a walk across the river. This is the perfect place for some tranquility, rest time, and photos in the heart of the city.

So far, this city is an amazing mix of modern meets historic. It feels like a surprise everywhere. One thing we always love in big cities is when they mix in nature like this. You have nature, you have a river. It looks to be a man-made and groomed-out city. The skyline in the background makes for an exceptional city, and a mix of old and new, which for me is great.

Whenever I go to a new city, I really want to spend time with the locals, local areas and really immerse myself in the sightseeing that the city has to offer. A big part of this is the food, and wandering the streets. Seoul is the perfect place for first-time travelers to Asia, as it is very safe, modern, and clean which makes it an attractive contender for 2024, not to mention the visa free travel arrangements that Korea has hosted with a number of countries.
