With Korean webtoons slowly becoming a pop culture trend, becoming famous K-dramas, it's no wonder that Korean animation has also taken flight globally! This article will focus on the top three Korean anime that you will really enjoy!

Anime in Korea has gained popularity in recent years, and with that some great anime has been released. In this article we will look at the top three Korean anime's that you should check out. A great thing about Korean anime, is that it often focuses on the social pressures that exist within the Korean society and these three have topped the list!


  1. Sky Blue (2023)

Sky Blue is a sci-fi movie which hit our screens back in 2003. The story focuses on a dystopian future, where environmental pollution has wiped out most of humanity. This of course leads to chaos, and eventually a city called "Ecoban" was founded, thanks to a break through in technology called the DELOS system. The DELOS system is powered by the pollution which wiped out most of humanity, although only elite citizens can live in Ecoban, and poor people can live there only if they agree to work as laborers.




This anime has a strong focus on the environment, and a deep meaning within it's storyline, which makes it a top contender of Korean anime's to watch, with it's incredible CGI backgrounds.



  1. The King of Pigs (2011)

The King of Pigs is a fantastic thriller, which leaves viewers with a memorable and through provoking storyline to think over. Not only does this thriller feature horrifically yet realistic scenes of bullying and toxic school dynamics, it also shows the harsh realities of the class system. Some scenes do contain violence which might be hard for some people to watch, but those who stick with it, will be left with many questions.




This anime was directed by Yeon Sang Ho, who worked on the famous box office hit Train to Busan. The King of Pigs hit our screens back in 2011, and the storyline focuses on a business which goes bankrupt. The owner kills his wife in rage, and unsure what to do, he seeks out his old class mate to help him. Once the pair meet, they start reminiscing about the good times that they had together at middle school, though at that time they were at the bottom of the social pyramid, and sadly bullied, and called "pigs". This did however, later change when a new student befriended the boys.



  1. Lookism (2022)

Lookism, is an anime series which is based on the popular manhwa (comic book series). The series follows Park Hyung Seok, who is a young man who endures never-ending bullying due to his weight and appearance. Desperate to escape it, he moves to Seoul and plans to start at a new school, however things take a strange turn when he wakes up one day in a new and attractive body. He later learns how to switch between the two bodies when he falls asleep, and as times passes he learns how different life is for attractive people.




This anime highlights some of the on-going social pressure that happen within Korean schools and society. If you love a good teenage storyline, this one will definitely keep you glued to the screen!
