Korean archer, Lim Si Hyeon, breaks the first world record in impressive fashion as she takes home the gold in Paris! Here's what you need to know about the archery gold medalist and what it took for her to become number one!
Lim Si Hyeon is from the quiet area of Gangneung, South Korea, and was born in 2003, She attended No-am Elementary School where she first began archery as an after-school activity in the third grade. She left her hometown for Seoul to attend Seoul Physical Education High School. She graduated from the Korean National Sports University.
Being on the national team comes with great privileges and respect, and she competed in the women's individual event at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where she set a world record in the preliminary round, scoring 694 out of a maximum of 720. I found this really impressive when I heard about it. I have tried archery on several occasions, and I have to say that it looks a lot easier than it actually is. Of course, I am no Olympian, however, I really respect the skill and time that she has put into perfecting the sport.
Of course, with 2024 being part of the rise in K-culture, Korea seems to be scoring really well at the Olympic Games in Paris. I strongly believe that the success that Korea seems to be having at the Olympics and breaking world records will elevate that success in other areas such as soft power (K-dramas, K-pop, K-culture).
Let's check out some of the highlights!
In fact, as the only archer on the Korean women’s squad with international experience before this season, the pressure has fallen on Lim Si Hyeon to deliver a team-leading on-field performance at these Olympics. She rose to that challenge early.
This surprised me when I heard that she was the only female archer for Korea in Paris, as I felt it was a lot of pressure just on her, however, she proved me and probably others wrong by breaking a world record at the games. I can imagine that the feeling and excitement were like no other.
