Legendary K-pop superstar, Jay Park, is set to host SBS’s new idol audition program Universe League! Read on to find out more about this exciting new show!
During the past four years that I have spent in Korea, Jay Park has been a household name, and he has appeared at any festivals during the time I have spent here in Korea. When I heard that he was set to host this new show, I was really excited! Coming from the UK, I have grown up with similar programs, such as Pop Idol and X Factor. They have been and are very entertaining to watch, which has led to me feeling really excited about this show!
In Universe League, Jay Park will act as the link between the contestants and the viewers, guiding the show as a presenter. As part of this role, he will closely observe the intense competition and the growth of the participants, narrating their journey throughout the program. This is a great way for him to get to know the contestants, and I am sure he will already have an idea of what the judges are expecting as he has been in a similar boat himself before having worked in the industry for a number of years.
If you did not already know, Jay Park is an all-around musician recognized for his outstanding skills in hip hop, producing, and dance. Last year, he showcased his hosting abilities on The Seasons: Jay Park’s Drive. He plans to bring his skilled and witty hosting to Universe League.
Universe League is the second season and male version of Universe Ticket—the audition program that recently gave rise to the new girl group UNIS. Universe League will feature a different format from the first season, which I think is great to spice up the show and keep it interesting for viewers.
Let's check out the trailer!
Although the trailer does not give much away, I think that it highlights the contestants really need to have the entire package, that being a great vocal range, charisma, style and dance ability. Of course, a great thing about this type of show is that the contestants, usually get a leg up, by getting a full makeover, and lessons in vocals and dance which will only help them compete, and rightly so make the show more interesting for the viewers.
The upcoming season will showcase a league of teams battling against each other, with the final winning team securing the “Prism Cup” and earning the opportunity to debut, sounds great right?! Now, three representative K-pop artists will serve as coaches for each team, selecting members and competing against one another. The artists who will serve as the coaches will be revealed at a later date, similar to that on the UK and US shows for that matter. I wonder who the guests will be?!
