K-pop star IU was named Gucci's Global Ambassador during this year's showing at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. The world's premier film festival was held on May 30th. IU arrived on the red carpet which Gucci described in an Instagram post: “Global Brand Ambassador IU was captured at the 75th Annual Cannes Film Festival wearing a Gucci gown with lace rebrodé petal details on the cuffs, as well as sequin flowers and crystal embellishments on the skirt.”
While IU has been an ambassador for the popular Italian luxury brand, this is the first time Gucci has acknowledged her as a Global Ambassador. IU is now the fourth Korean celebrity to be named a global brand ambassador following EXO's Kai, Shin Min Ah, and Lee Jung Jae .
The K-pop sensation arrived with the rest of the cast from her latest film 'Broker' which received a 12-minute standing ovation at the festival beating out 2009's 'Thirst'. The film was well received and garnered the Best Actor (Son Kang Ho Parasite 2019) award.
