The Potato Lab has quickly caught attention with its lighthearted and quirky storyline. The drama follows Kim Mi Kyung (played by Lee Sun Bin), a passionate potato researcher, who suddenly finds her peaceful life disrupted when her company merges with Wonhan Retail.

The situation becomes even more complicated when So Baek Ho ( played by Kang Tae Oh), a composed and sharp director, arrives at the countryside lab to oversee operations.

From the very beginning, the show embraces its rom-com roots with plenty of bickering, misunderstandings, and an unexpected romance that develops rather quickly.

But does it offer something new, or is it just another cliché love story?

A Classic Romance With a Self-Aware Twist

The first two episodes set the stage for a familiar yet enjoyable romantic comedy. Mi Kyung and Baek Ho’s interactions are filled with humorous clashes, and as her best friend hilariously predicts, love blossoms by the end of Episode 2 with an unexpected kiss.

But the real question remains — who fell first, and who will confess first? That’s something the drama teases viewers with, keeping the tension alive.

Scenic Beauty and Cozy Atmosphere

Unlike many city-based office romances, The Potato Lab brings viewers to the serene countryside, where potato fields and rural charm play an important role.

The cinematography beautifully captures the essence of nature, making it a perfect watch for those who enjoy peaceful yet engaging dramas.

While it doesn’t reinvent the genre, the drama’s warmth, comedy, and picturesque setting create a comforting viewing experience. The slow unravelling of both leads’ troubled pasts adds depth to their characters, making it more than just a lighthearted rom-com.
