Dating Rumors and Agency Response
Speculation about a romantic relationship began on March 24, 2024, when Kim Sae Ron uploaded — and quickly deleted — a photo of herself with Kim Soo Hyun on Instagram Stories.
The photo led to dating rumors, which Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, GOLDMEDALIST, swiftly denied. They stated that the picture was from the past, when both actors were under the same agency and warned against spreading false rumors.
Claims of a Six-Year Secret Relationship
On March 11, 2025, Kim Sae Ron’s aunt claimed that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had been secretly dating for six years (2015-2021). She alleged that Kim Soo Hyun had a strong influence over Kim Sae Ron’s career decisions, including her joining GOLDMEDALIST in 2020. According to the aunt, the agency failed to protect her interests, especially after her DUI incident in 2022.
Kim Sae Ron was reportedly struggling with debt after the DUI incident. Her aunt claimed that Kim Soo Hyun lent her a significant sum of money to settle the damages but later demanded repayment. This led to distress and isolation for Kim Sae Ron, contributing to her declining mental health.
Financial Disputes and Allegations of Betrayal

Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron allegedly dated from when she was 15 to 21 years old (2015-2021).
In 2019, when Kim Soo Hyun started his own agency, Kim Sae Ron reportedly helped him without pay.
After their breakup, GOLDMEDALIST paid 700 million KRW (USD 482,443) in compensation for Kim Sae Ron’s DUI damages.
Initially, there was no demand for repayment, but in 2024, Kim Sae Ron suddenly received a notice requiring her to return the money.
She attempted to contact Kim Soo Hyun multiple times but was ignored.
A reporter later called her, leading her to believe Kim Soo Hyun had leaked her number.
During the airing of Queen of Tears, Kim Sae Ron posted a picture from when she was 16, allegedly hoping Kim Soo Hyun would contact her. However, his agency dismissed the rumors and did not respond to her attempts at communication.
Role of Malicious Reporters and Industry Figures
Kim Sae Ron was reportedly under immense stress due to continuous malicious reports. Reporter Lee Jin Ho was accused of harassing her for three years, allegedly using inside information from her former manager, Kwak Tae Young.
Her family believes this manager may have leaked details to reporters, worsening her situation.
Additionally, another reporter, Kang Kyung Yoon, was involved in spreading negative reports about Kim Sae Ron. She was also supposed to make a comeback in a play directed by Dongchimi but was later removed.
Her aunt alleged that this decision involved instances of verbal abuse and sexual harassment.
Kim Sae Ron’s Family Speaks Out
Following her passing, Kim Sae Ron’s family revealed the struggles she faced. She even changed her name due to public stigma after her DUI case.
Her family also denied reports claiming she was financially broke, stating that such narratives only added to their suffering.
They criticized the mainstream media for blocking their attempts to tell the full story, which led them to reveal the truth via YouTube instead.
Ongoing Investigations and Public Reactions
GOLDMEDALIST has strongly denied all allegations, stating that Kim Soo Hyun had no romantic relationship with Kim Sae Ron. They announced plans to take legal action against those spreading false information.
Public reactions remain divided. Some fans support Kim Soo Hyun, arguing that the allegations are baseless and that he was being unfairly targeted. Others sympathize with Kim Sae Ron’s struggles and question whether she was abandoned by those around her during difficult times.
