Compared to other Asian countries like China and Japan, South Korea has recorded the highest measurements in Asia in terms of height. Of course, there are several factors related to this, so let's take a look!

So what is considered tall in Korea?

Many young male Korans are listed as completing their mandatory military service, as many of the BTS members currently do. I believe that this is one of the main factors as to why male Koreans have increased in height over the past decade as their diet is heavily censored, activities, and time spent at the gym.

Not only this, but the diet in South Korea has changed significantly in the past 50 years, as Korea was once a very poor country and as a result many Koreans did not have a balanced diet unlike today where there is almost every food imaginable available especially protein items. Having a balanced diet helps your body maintain and gain muscle and help your body function more.

So how did Koreans get so much taller? Let's take a look at this video!

Koreans are the tallest nationalities in East Asia with their males' average height measuring three centimeters more than that of their Japanese counterparts. In the case of the females, the average height of Koreans is 2.5 centimeters (0.9 inches) more than the Japanese which is impressive when you think about it, as Japan in the 70s and 80s was renowned for being advanced and having good quality of life compared to Koreans. In addition to this, people in the US are shrinking compared to Koreans which is growing.

On Instagram, this street interview with YouTube star "K-explorer" featured one Korean man who was 193 cm (6 feet 4 inches) tall! Let's take a look!

Additionally, South Korea is unique in how quickly the population has become taller. The change in household income from the poverty in the 1950s to the rich Koreans in the 2000s as Koreans are now one of the biggest spenders of luxury items due to the heavy industrial input in the 90s. The difference is particularly stark in height between South and North Koreans where the living standards couldn't be different and access to nutrition in the North is restricted unlike in the South. Will South Koreans continue to grow taller?
