During their latest concert K-pop group NewJeans performed under their own names, rather than their band name, to avoid their contract dispute. This is what happened!
2024 has been a historic year for K-pop girl group NewJeans, as well as their record label ADOR/HYBE, and all for the wrong reasons.
Recently, NewJeans held a press conference where they confirmed that their contract with their label HYBE would become terminated due to conflicted interests and HYBE breaking the agreement, but was this all a ploy for the public to join their side?
During the bands YOASOBI appearance at Incheon Inspire Arena on December 7th 2024, the group introduced themselves using their own individual names, rather than mentioning the name NewJeans. This did not go unnoticed, and therefore drew the attention of audience members, and fans through social media.
So where do we go from here?
During their appearance, some fans described the girls' performance as an 'unusual atmosphere' due to their band logo being stripped from the stage visuals. Although YOASOBI mentioned NewJeans briefly during their concert, during the introduction the group did not make any acknowledgment themselves, and why would they? If they did, since there is an ongoing legal battle between themselves and HYBE, it would be a big breach of contract, and sadly go against their interest, since effectively HYBE owns the rights to the band and the copyright of the NewJeans brand and name.
Many organizations that are involved directly with the ongoing dispute have urged NewJeans members to withdraw their dispute against record giant HYBE, but can you see the girls following the pressure to withdraw?
