All about Show Business
Before we take a look at the K-drama actors who will star in this new Netflix show, let's take a look at what Show Business is all about. Netflix is expanding its Korean content slate with Show Business, a sweeping period drama set against the backdrop of South Korea‘s entertainment industry from the 1960s through the 1980s. The star-studded series brings together some of Korea’s most celebrated actors.
The drama follows Min Ja Song (Song Hye Kyo), a determined woman who overcomes a difficult childhood to carve out her path in Korea’s burgeoning music scene. Song, fresh off her turn in Lunar New Year release Dark Nuns leads the ensemble cast alongside Squid Game star Gong Yoo, who portrays her childhood friend Dong Gu. Their characters’ deep-rooted bond is tested as they navigate the cutthroat entertainment world together, with Gong’s character described as unpredictable yet uniquely responsive to Min Ja’s influence.

So what can we expect from the actors and actresses in the show? Can they live up to fan expectations?
We all know that it can only take one show to go viral, and we have seen this throughout many commercials, and TV shows in the past. K-drama actors are no exception, and with this star studded line up, with some of the hottest names in K-drama, will they be able to keep fans engaged throughout the show?

First up is the one and only Song Hye Kyo, who stars as Min Ja, a resilient woman shaped by a challenging childhood. Tough and determined, she fights to survive until she takes a bold leap into South Korea’s music industry.
For sure Song Hye Kyo will be able to captivate fans in the show, as she has been taking on lead roles since the early 2000s, Song has become one of Asia's most well-known and significant actors thanks to her gifts, attractiveness, and contributions to Korean entertainment. Over the years, she has established herself as one of South Korea's most attractive women and even gained recognition as the pinnacle of beauty in the nation of South Korea as a whole.

Next up is Gong Yoo plays Dong Gu, Min Ja’s childhood friend who follows her into the industry. Though unpredictable, he is fiercely loyal and always stands by Min Ja, ready to support her no matter what. Fans will recognize him from the more recent globally successful series Goblin, along with another award-winning Korean film Train to Busan.
Gong Yoo is considered one of the Chungmuro actors, which is like an A-class actor. He has won lots of prestigious awards and has appeared in more Korean movies than K-dramas.

The show will also feature Seolhyun taking on the role of Min Hui, who shares a complicated love-hate relationship with Min Ja since childhood. She follows Min Ja’s lead without hesitation but also has a sharp, rebellious side that adds depth to her character. What K-drama would be complete without a complicated love-hate relationship? After all, K-drama focuses more on that idealistic romance, which every Korean strives for, though what happens behind closed doors is another matter. Seolhyun is a fantastic actress for this role. Not only is she young and attractive. Using her old music career as a member of AOA, and her leading roles since 2015, we're sure she will be able to captivate fans of the show, to keep them watching!

Also, Cha Seung Won stars as Gil Yeo, a legendary composer and a powerful figure in the music industry. Every artist he works with finds success. This character should really play an insight into how the Korean entertainment industry really works. With his extensive experience in the limelight, this Korean actor began his career as an in-demand fashion model in the 1990s gaining a lot of attention, later leading to his national stardom in the hit comedy film Kick to the Moon in 2001, and in more recent years Our Blues in 2022.

Lastly, Lee Ha Nee portrays Yang Ja, Min Hui’s mother, who dreams of becoming a singer. Despite financial struggles and harsh realities, she remains determined and passionate, refusing to give up on her goal. Coming in at third place in the Miss Universe competition on 2007, this just shows how much determination and charisma Lee Ha Nee really has. The question is, will this shine through during the show?
This new show really is expected to be one of the hottest new shows of the year on Netflix, and the drama is currently in talks to be released on Netflix as a 22-episode series. Stay tuned!
