BTS On Chuseok In Difficult Weather This Year!

Although the Chuseok holiday is upon Korea this weekend, the country weathered the strongest storm in the nation’s history when Super Typhoon Hinnamnor hammered its southern coastal areas earlier this week.



● Since when was Chuseok celebrated?


Korea was an agricultural country until the beginning of the 20th century, and it also used the traditional lunar calendar. Therefore, Korea was witnessing many events in which the country wished for an abundant harvest. These events developed into traditional holidays, festivals, and folkloric beliefs held according to the lunar calendar.


● What is the Chuseok holiday in Korea?


Chuseok (추석), also known as Hangawi (한가위), means the 15th day of August, according to the lunar calendar, and its one of the biggest holidays in South Korea. Sometimes called "Korean Thanksgiving", Chuseok is celebrated with good food, wine, and family gatherings.





● What do you do during Chuseok?


Family members from near and far come together to share food and stories and to give thanks to their ancestors. Popular Chuseok gifts tend to be fruit baskets, cuts of meat such as beef and Spam, snacks, and gift sets of essential and practical items: toiletries, haircare, and such.

● Can people celebrate Chuseok this year?


The weather in Korea these days is difficult and, the worst of the typhoon is forecast for Monday or Tuesday when the weather system is expected to pound the resort island of Jeju and batter southern coastal cities including Busan and Ulsan, with landfall expected on Tuesday.
