With advancements in technology taking place virtually everyday, many have questioned if K-pop "AI" dolls a thing of the future for the Korean entertainment industry? Let's take a look at some of the hottest K-pop industry's top AI idols out now!



People from all walks of life, and in a variety of sectors, people have been adapting too and more frequently using AI in order to drive down the time it takes to complete tasks, in addition to collecting data and streamlining tasks more effectively.


AI has helped the entertainment industry already, since it can be used to translate languages, help with customer service, although a negative effect is that it can take away human jobs. While Korea has not been placed among the top three countries for the use of AI in entertainment, it has been digitally connected countries and it has helped to use CGI and other special effects in some of the movies and TV shows.


We highlight some of the most popular AI and virtual K-pop idols out right now!


Han YuA

Before becoming a K-pop idol, Han YuA was the main character of the BR game Focus on You and an AI Virtual influencer, she was created by Gianstep, the same company that worked on the avatars for Aespa.





After signing with YG Entertainment, she made her debut in 2022, and her first digital single I Like That, has kept her very busy with promotional activities.





Superkind



This seven member band, is a virtual hybrid K-pop group. The group has in the past been described as "the first decentralized K-pop entertainment" in which their fan club, called "players" and it has helped with how audiences see some upcoming releases.




Like Aespa, Superkind has AI members, Seung and Saejin. Saejin was initially introduced alongside four human members – Daemon, Eugene, Geon and SIO – followed by JDV a month later and another AI member, Seung, six months later.






MAVE

Making headlines since 2023, Metaverse Entertainment's four member band which by the way is an virtual K-pop band, MAVE: Like IITERNITI is a fully girl group, and they have collaborated with big companies such as Kakao Entertainment and Netmarble. What makes this band stand out, is that the members are all virtual idols, and they are in fact the first to be created with Metaverse.





The release of "Pandora's Box" in 2023, contained two singles, "Pandora", and "Wonderland (Idypia)". The same year, the metaverse band, released their first EP, What's my Name and a fun fact about this all AI band, is that they are multilingual and able to communicate in Korean, French, English and Bahasa, and their voices and spectacular dance moves are created by undisclosed human performers.





By using AI voice technology, and adding this new technology in the form of using virtual metaverse idols, and other AI produced content, SM Entertainment like other big named labels, have plans to use IP universe in merchandise games, brand collaborations and webtoons.
